Lots of interest in new controversial store

Tesco has been contacted by 133 companies wanting to design a new store in Eastside. (Sourced from thisisnottingham.)
 
The supermarket giant has signed a contract to build a 110,000sq ft store in the regeneration zone behind the BBC, off London Road, with the company which owns the site.

The proposal for a supermarket has received a cool response from Nottingham City Council, which wants to see office development at Eastside.

When the deal was revealed in March, deputy leader of the city council, Coun Graham Chapman said he had "substantial" reservations.

However, Tesco is pressing on and in an effort to address concerns over the development of a supermarket at the site, it has launched a design competition for the new store.
