Nottingham Contemporary was among the winners at the coveted Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards ceremony last month.

The arts centre, which only opened its doors to the public in November 2009, received specific praise from the judges who said the development, designed by Caruso St John, had boosted Nottingham's attractiveness as a destination city.

The jury said: "The city council credit their new building with a resurgence of confidence in the city, and say that it has given them more than they could have hoped for or imagined. In short, it's put Nottingham on the map."

The RIBA awards are considered among the most important in the field, and buildings selected are eligible for consideration in the RIBA Sterling Prize, which will be awarded in October.
