Local councillors call on Transport Minister to visit Nottingham

Following last week's Adjournment debate in the House of Commons in which Lillian Greenwood the Nottingham South MP raised the critical importance of plans to widen the A453, Councillors from across the political spectrum at Nottingham City Council have welcomed and endorsed her invitation to the Transport Minister Norman Baker MP to visit Nottingham and see first hand the local transport issues the city faces.

Councillor Jane Urquhart portfolio holder for Transport and Area Working, said:

"I would welcome the opportunity to show Norman Baker around Nottingham. If the new Government is serious about localism, it needs to understand how we have delivered successful and well used public transport locally.

"This has been done through investment in the fantastic NET Line One tram system, integrated with some of the best local bus services in the country. We need to build on this with our package of the extended tram network, a state of the art Nottingham Train Station interchange at its heart, supported by an expanded Park and Ride network on the most important main roads, most importantly on the A453."
